Hello,
I’ve made some walnut molding for my house and finished it with blonde shellac. But the shellac is too glossy even when I sand it down to 220.
Is there an easy fix, say, wiping on some other flat finish over the shellac, that will bring down the reflection?
Many thanks, Paul

I'm confused, since if any film finish, including shellac were evenly sanded to 220 grit it would have a matte or flat sheen.. Are you seeing reflection from the insides of the pores? You can use a lower sheen wiping varnish to get a less shiny surface inside the pores. Waterlox Satin, with a little thinning would work as wiping varnish. But, be sure to keep it very well strirred or you will end up with streaks of uneven gloss.
Jeff Jewitt used to sell Shellac Flat additive for shellac to lower sheen. You might look at homesteadfinishingproducts.com
