recommend 18 ga brad nailer(heavy abuse)
Hi Gang,
Need some recommendations on an 18 ga brad nailer. I have used craftsman and porter cable nailers in the past. I need a new one and am looking for something to stand up to the rigors of repeated heavy duty/extended use building cabinets. Preferably something in the 5/8″ – 1 1/4″ range, and with a small/light-weight body.
Thanks,
Lee

whatever brand you buy, get two, no matter how high quality they all need periodic maintenance. New drivers, o-rings,seals etc. If you have two, when one starts having trouble you can grab the other and rebuild the first at your leisure. I buy two rebuild kits and two extra drivers when I make the initial purchase and when I use a kit or driver I order another. It takes less than a half hour to completely rebuild a gun as long as you have the parts on hand.

Thanks, that's good advice. I'm having some intermittent problems with the current nailer (craftsman). Since I have never done a rebuild before I figured it was best to get a new or second gun before I tore this one apart.

Lee,
I don't know if it's still on the market but I've had a Senco SLP20 in the shop for 10 years. This is a production shop, and none of the 5 workers pamper the tools much, as you might imagine. The gun shoots brads up to 1 1/2" long, although we most often shoot 1 1/4". Over the years it's been refitted with O-rings a few times, but the gun still never misfires.

Hi David,
Thanks for the input. That's the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I will check into the Senco.
Cheers,

Lee,
The Senco SLP20 is the way to go. It's been in production for about 15 years and is the number one choice by professional cabinet makers. If you're a follower of Norm and The New Yankee Workshop you will see him use this gun. Speaks pretty loudly how much he likes it since Porter Cable sponsors his show and gives him all the PC nailers for free.

Senco is good and Hitachi is very good. Back when I was servicing tools and nail guns the Hitachi were considered the best. We provided a free loaner service for the customers. Roofer and framers were the hardest on their tools. Consider service if you buy local. Find someone who sevices guns near you and buy accordingly. Cheaper in the long run.
