I noticed that Highland Hardware does not list Porter Cable routers for sale. They have PC router accessories. Does this mean there is a quality problem with Porter Cable routers?

Interesting question. I wonder what is up with that? I like my PC router and optional plunge base. Seems like not long ago I bought them but has been two decades ! Had to disassemble and lube and tweek the plunge to get smooth action but the parts/quality were quite good for the price.
I bought the best PC saber saw , used it a few times ( in steel by the way ) and sold it a few days later when I found the DeWalt which was just smoother over all. Love that thing !
DeWalt cuts 3/16" and 1/4" steel like it was made for it. I liked the look of the PC but was not quite there for the use I had in mind.

I think it reflects their product-line stocking decision - in the store, there is a LARGE section of floor space dedicated to Festool. Makes sense to me to not stock two lines, especially when everyone on-line has PC - bet the pricing can get pretty brutal.
The accessories for PC meet a wide demand from a lot of customers that have had their PC for many years, and many more to come, like me.
The big machinery is all Steel City, except for the Saw Stop - complete with TV monitor, VCR demo, and kool-aid.
I, too, suspect it's a matter of product-line choice on Highland's part. If they are trying to push the Festool line, they may not want to have less-expensive products on display to compete. That may, or may not, be a wise approach, but it certainly reduces the amount of capital stored in inventory.
It could just be the PC routers don't fit into their vision of products to sell. Hard to tell. could be they could not work out a good agreement on price/volume points and feel they can do better on other lines. The margin on accessories could be good enough and volume to meet business targets. Or it could be a Green German plot :)

Highland Hardware used to carry PC stuff. I suspect that with the marketing of PC into the borg stores, they probably made a decision to not sell them. There purchasing volume wouldn't be anywhere near the borgs and they wouldn't be as competitive. My wife and I used to own a retail store and made the same sort of decisions. It is very difficult for a small operator to compete with the purchasing power of say Wally World.
