I’m going to buy a pocket hole jig, mainly for face frame cabinet construction (though i’m sure i’ll find a few billion other uses for it), and i’d like to get the full set-up, not just a rocket jig or economy model. The Kreg K2000 is an obvious option, but i’ve heard good things about the CMT pocket pro as well. Does anyone know how the two compare, or know of any comparative reviews online? If you’ve used them both, what features do you like or dislike on either model? I’m sure they are both good quality, but i want to know which is BEST!!!

Hey Jesse,
I have the kreg and have used the CMT,as far as quality goes they are equal.
The main difference is in the set up.With the kreg because the drill guide and the clamp are 1 unit it becomes difficult to do panel work without fitting extra support wings to the sides of the jig, but for face frames having the one unit is great. It also makes it easier to store and takes up less space. The CMT suitability for panel work is limited only by how long you choose to make yoour jig bottom.
Another difference is in the way the material thickness is adjusted.T he CMT is one unit while the Kreg uses spacers.I prefer the Kreg spacers, just find them more stable.
If I was going to buy another set up it would be the Kreg again(maybe just because I'm more used to it)

I have the Kreg 2000 and love it. Also have several Sommerfeld tapes in which he uses the CMT pocket hole jig which I have to admit has several advantages over the Kreg. I spoke to a Kreg rep several months ago who stated that they will be coming out with a CMT styled jig. If they do I will purchase one. I like the finer adjustability of the CMT and the fact that you can handle large stock on a flat plane without having to have wings to support the wood.

Hmmm, what to do? I think the CMT looks like it might be a bit better in some aspects of ease of use, but the Kreg is less expensive AND comes with a rocket jig, a mini kreg, and more accessories (gotta love them accessories) - and is more universally reccmomended. I'm assuming the latter is just because it been around longer and so more people have used it. I think i'll probably go with the Kreg because i'm on a budget and it seems like more for the money - unless anyone can change my mind. I still have a couple of weeks before i get to the stage in this project that i'll need it, so i'm still open to hearing your opinions.

I've had my Kreg 2000 kit for over a year now. You can take away a lot of tools but not my Kreg Kit! The time I've saved has been great. I find new uses for it all the time. One suggestion..purchase the video's Kreg offers. They will get you off on the right path and cause you to think about other uses for your Kreg. I also keep all of their screws in stock. You never know what screw you might need next, so be prepared. My friend has the CMT unit and it's also a very good tool. CMT has great videos that are worth the investment. CMT and Mark offer great service!!! Good luck!
