I have 20A/250V L6-20 receptacles in my shop.
Can I run a BS which only requires 15As and a 6-15 plug (http://www.grizzly.com/products/14-2-HP-Deluxe-Bandsaw/G0457) with a L6-20 plug on a 20A circuit?
I know the motor amperage should ideally match the breaker size to prevent over-heating, but is 15A to 20A dangerous?
Thanks.

You plug lamps with #18 zip cord into nema 5-15 ot 5-20 receptacles (15/20 amp 120 v) all the time without any question.
Why is this different.
The circuit breaker is sized to protect the permante wiring.
The BS has it's own overload protection. For size motor most like a built in thermo overload. The Red Reset button.
BTW,
"I know the motor amperage should ideally match the breaker size to prevent over-heating, but is 15A to 20A dangerous?"
While in fact the motor current is 10 amps, not 15.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Your saw is prewired for 220V and draws 10 amps. Their L6-20 is fine and designed to protect that 20A circuit, Not the saw. Ideally there should be a motor starter that has heaters in it or fused to about 15 amps. I have the stab twist lock on many of my power tools, but only a starter switch on one of them. A work in progress.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
