Platform Bed…Now for the Hitch…
*
Let me introduce myself. I’m a participant in
i Cook’s Talk,
down the hall to the left. We just bought a 102 year old house. Needless to say, the staircase was not designed to accommodate some of the larger furniture now available. We’re presently sleeping on a queensize mattress on the floor.
My request is for plans for a platform bed that…
a) You don’t have to be Norm Abrams to put together…and
b) Can be disassembled to fit down a narrow staircase if necessary
Length of planks doesn’t seem to be a problem, it’s the width. For instance, out of two 60 year old pieces of cherry mahogany furniture we have, the l-o-n-g dresser would fit up the stairs but the
w-i-d-e chest would not. (It has now become a place to store china and towels, downstairs.)
If anyone has plans for a platform bed that fits this description, or can direct me to a place where I can get them, please either e-mail me ([email protected]) or post here. TIA.

Just posted this in main discussion - we are making a king-size platform bed that can be taken apart. "Smart Shelving & Storage Solutions" by Danny Proulx http://www.cabinetmaking.com
You can adjust the size to fit your room - my friend can't get a regular queen size mattress up his staircase and around a corner so built this bed to use with a foam mattress.
*Great, Darlene...thanks! Getting the mattress up the steps is not a problem because mattressesi bend. It's the i box springthat would end up taking out a wall. I'll definitely look at your thread.
