I want to plane a 24″ long piece in my 13″ planer. Any issues doing that?

How wide is the board? So long as it is narrower than 13", 24" in length should be plenty for safe and satisfactory planing. If you meant to type that the board was 24" wide; you are not getting that through a 13" planer unless you rip it down the middle first.
The board is 24" long and about 10" wide, so no, I don't have to rip it first. I was afraid that a piece 24: long would be too short to run through the machine.
I've run many much shorter pieces through by 12" Makita lunch box planer. My owner's manual had details abut the dimensions that might be problematic due to roller spacing and the like, but 24" would seem plenty long for any planer I've ever seen. Is yours some vintage or unusual machine?
no, it's a new dewalt. first one i've ever owned...
I don't have a DeWalt, but my Delta planer's manual has safe stock guidelines in it. Have you looked in your manual? My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
Hi
I have a Grizzley 15'' planer, and I hav planed boards as short as 8'' on it with good results. A word of caution, do not have any body parts in line of the infeed, If the board is too short it will catch the cutter and come flying back with lots of force. It is best to know the limitations of wour machine ,regarding length .
Have a nice day Lee
thanks for the advice. I will stand to one side...
I own a DeWalt 13" planer. You will have no problem with a board 24" long. It's just a CMA for DeWalt.
