I wonder if anyone has a solution to minimize the extreme noise produced when my double bag dust collector gets attached to my old 14″ planer. They make ordinary noise alone but in this combination it becomes extreme!…a very high pitch screem. Thanks

What make and model planer?
John White
It's A Delta 13" RC 33 planer, but just to be clear it only is real loud when the dust hose is attached...it just magnifies the noise tremendously!
When you change the knives on one of these machines you remove a flat plastic baffle that is 2 to 3 inches across and the width of the cutter head. The baffle sits just in front of the cutter head, on the outfeed side and it is set very close to the head to direct chips into the dust connection. On the machines I've worked on the baffle has been orange colored. The problem is that there is a right way and a wrong way to reinstall the baffle. The long edge of the baffle that is close to the head is beveled. The bevel is supposed to be face down, so the the beveled edge matches the arc of the cutter head. If you install the baffle with the bevel up the machine becomes a siren. Check your machine, I'll bet that the baffle is upside down.John White
Thanks, I will take a look at that.....but, The knives have never been changed, I bought it new 20 years (?) ago and have never needed to change nor sharpen them.
