Hey guys i just got a PC 557 plate joiner off a clearance rack at lowes the other night and i have a question about it for any other owners. It has depth settings for #20, #10, #0, FF, S, D and 6
Obviously i know what #20, #10, #0, and FF are for but what are the other ones used for?

Well, I know that FF is "face frame", a small biscut made for such application, the others I don't know.
Good Luck!

The S, D and 6 only come on clearance models. ha..ha.. I don't have a clue. Look in your owners manual under the depth settings and post back. I would also like to know...

I am pretty sure they refer to simplex and duplex fasteners (Lamello?) #6 I don't have any idea.
I got mine a couple months ago, and I am very happy with it. But why are they on the clearance rack? Is PC about to come out with something new?
no idea why there were on clearance rack, the 3 lowes in Omaha around me all just last week put out 3-5 big tables of stuff on clearance. Mostly black and decker junk stuff, but i've seen PC Belt Sanders, Plate Joiners, Routers and Drills along with one store having the new Milwakee Palm Grip router and some other good stuff, also a Delta Oscillating spindle sander.
I figured i'd hit up the clearance rack while they were there, from all i know it seems like they were just making room on the shelves for some other stuff.

The S is for Simplex and D for Duplex. Simplex is basically two detachable parts of aluminum shaped like half biscuits that interlock to connect panels and such. Duplex is a detachable hinge shaped like a biscuit. One would use the joiner like a hinge mortiser in this application. The 6, or MAX on my machine, as far as I can tell, refers to a rather large biscuit. The Lamello lists a S6 biscuit that measures 85mm x 30mm (3-3/8" x 1-1/8). The procedure requires two cuts to make one slot, so it's not very practical. If you're like me, you'll probably use the 20 about 80% of the time and the 10 and 0 the rest. I tried the FF for one project but I think I'll use pocket screws for my face frames in the future.
Simply go to http://www.porter-cable.com/ - their web site has the owners manual and parts lists readily available for downloading - and it has an explanation of the settings for the biscuits.
