Hello All !! I am painting my shop ( no I am not realy painting it, the Lady that I rent it from is painting it) my shop is 16 ft. wide by 60 ft. long and 9 ft. high. I wanted to do it and she has started it. The upper part will be white, but I want to paint the lower part ( 4 ft to 5 ft off the floor ) a differant color. And I haven’t made up my mind what color. Anyone out there have any idea’s.
Thanks Jack Griffin Brighton, On.

I painted my shop with an eggshell latex white paint. Really brightened it up with the ceiling and walls all reflecting the light. I hate working in unfinished shops because of how dark they are.
White on top for me with a medium to light grey below.. Gives some contrast to the starkness of all white while still reflecting light to see better.
Sarge..
a really nice dark red- makes it hard to see the blood.
The Problem is I am a Blue Blood !!!

Take a handful of your "average" saw dust color (depends on what woods you work with) and put them between two pieces of glass, have the local paint place scan this and make a color for you. This way most of your saw dust will not show up that much when it gets on your walls. :)
Personally I went with a yellow ish beige color to get me a lighter color. But to each his/her own.

This weekend I also painted my shop, but it was purely by accident. I knocked a glass jar and a can of black spray paint off a shelf. The jar broke, the spray paint can fell on the broken glass and viola my shop was getting painted.
I wouldn't go far from white, maybe off-white or light cream. It really helps the lighting situation. If you're anything like me you will probably have quite a bit of stuff hanging on the walls any way so the white will be broken up. I also painted my floor white and will do so again when needed.

I tend to stain my floor. Not all the same color, not at the same time, and not buy choice but it does tend to get stained.

Doug,
I know what you mean! Mine has several stains of various colors. The white paint really does reflect the light and brightens up the whole shop. It also makes "dropped" things easier to find. It makes spills easier to see and clean up as well.
I first experienced the white floor paint on hangar floors when I was working on aircraft in the Navy.
Six gallons of Sherwin Williams "Armor-Seal" put three coats on my entire 1200 sq. ft. floor in under two hours per coat. Really; time and money well spent!
