Older Grizzly 14″ Bandsaw On/Off Switch
Hello,
I inherited an old 14″ Grizzly bandsaw – no owners manual to be found with it or through Grizzly. The problem is that the on/off switch doesn’t work. When I removed the housing I can press a little button on the part next to the on/off switch to get the motor going but as soon as I release – the motor stops.
Would you think it best to swap either/both parts or is there something else to look for? Thanks.

The model number of the saw would be useful. Is it a magnetic switch, 110 volt, single phase? Your description of the switch doesn't offer any clues.

There is no model number - anywhere. It seems to have faded off the tag. It is a 110v, single phase model. I've looked through the online Grizzly owners manuals - none of them are a match. Looks like I should just provide as much info to Grizzly as possible, hope for the correct switch and do a swap. Thanks.
Look in a grizzly catalog, replacement switches cost less than the shipping.

Can you describe the switch in a little more detail? Is it magnetic or a simple on/off?
If this is a mag switch, what you're describing (machine runs only if you hold down the start button) is a common symptom of dirty contacts.

Pete,
It looks like two separate parts. The one on the right is the "on/off" part and is wired to the other (more sophiticated looking part). The on/off looks like it simply completes the circuit when pressed (no electronics, just a rocker wired to the other part). The wires all look to be connected - no breaks.

Does the rocker stay down in the "on" position, or does it rock back and then you rock it the other way for off? Are there wound fine wire coils inside the "sophisticated looking part"?The wires aren't likely to be the problem. It's most likely something that makes contact. If you have air, you can't do much harm and you may fix it by blowing out the "sophisticated" assembly. :-)Pete
I would call Grizzly and talk to one of their tech people. I am sure that they can recommend and supply you with a switch that will work. They probably can also supply you with a manual.
