Does anyone know where I can get an old style mganifying glass. One of those with the round, black handle and the real glass ( instead of that plex-i-glass looking stuff ) with a thin metal band surrounding it???
I got the last at Radio Shack about 20 years ago. They don’t carry them anymore. Any clues, I would appreciate.
Thanks in advance if you might know…

Sarge, I Googled and a quick perusal found one with oak handle but not the traditional black handle.
I have found these mostly at on-site estate auctions. What size do you need? I may have one that will work for you if you don't mind polishing the glass a bit. I'd have to look around.

Thanks Jamie, Dan an Dale. You guys are right about E-bay. My wife took me for a tour. She sells crocheted baby clothes an blankets there, along with dolls she makes. They got a lot of stuff for sale.
That's the kind I'm looking for at Lee-Valley, Dan. I never thought to look there or Highland Hardware. I mentioned this to my SIL and she said no problem, I'll bring you one this afternoon when she drops by. It's in my shop now. I just built her an outside mobile potting table, so it's a trade-off.
Thanks again, I never knew it would be that hard to find the old style. I guess because it's the old style. ha..ha..

Sarge,
Lee Valley has a magnifying glass kit that should suit the bill. You can practice your ebonizing finish technique on the handle! (The kit is $13.50)http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=2&page=32870&category=1,250,43243
