I’m testing the waters for a get-together when the Woodworking Show comes to Portland in two weeks (Oct 21, 22, 23). What triggered it was the thread about Lee Valley being at the show (a first I believe?) Might there be some folks from here and WWA who’d like to do a meet-and-greet at one of the local restaurants/pubs? We’ve done this in the past and it was really fun.
So, if you’re interested, post here and specify which day(s) would be OK. Friday is my fave, but I realize many people can’t take a weekday off. Sat’s OK, Sunday is out for moi.

The 21st would work for me.
With five kids, including two 15-month-olds, it's hard for me to get from Redmond to Portland, particularly with the thought of bringing back "stuff". Are there any big shows in the Seattle area?
There is a Seattle show in April, 28-30th, Puyallup Fairgrounds. Here's the schedule for all the shows:http://www.thewoodworkingshows.com/content/calendar

LV had a small presense at last year's show. David Marks was there, too. 'was the first time my son got to meet someone he'd seen on TV. ;)
Do you ever get to the LV store in Vancouver B.C.? Was there for the first time in August.
I really do want to get up there! (Vancouver, for those who didn't see Barry's post.) Haven't done much travelling since Nick started working in Oregon. I'm thinking next spring after he retires we could head up there for a few days and "stop by" Lee Valley. We used to take weekend trips to Vancouver fairly often, but it's been a lonnnnnng time.
Was it fun?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Jamie -Since you'll be 'driving by' anyway, do stop in for a chat. You might like to try your hand at turning again!! (grin) Or even a little metal spinning for a diversion.
I hope I get to see you two before then! I dunno about the metal spinning, think I'll stick to wood. My little spalted bowl is sitting on the mantle, waiting for the next trip to your shop! (Pssst! I think Nick might be interested in trying his hand at lathe-work someday. Shhhhhhhhhhhh.)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Jamie ....Let's not discourage Nick and his fascination with turning! (grin)As for spinning, you really need to give it a try! I don't focus on spun metal parts per se but as an adjunct to other turned projects.http://www.eskimo.com/~hdshinn/coppertrim.jpgCheck it out -hehehe-Incidentally, how to you format the image tags to get an image to show up in the message rather than merely a URL as above? Do you use ordinary HTML tags like [img] ... [/img] or what. That didn't seem to work for me.
Re: code, see your email. Really neat stuff in the pic, Dennis!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Unless flight schedule changes (not scheduled for that weekend) any day is good for me. Most likely Friday for sure, Saturday is good bet as well.
My advantage is I'm only 20 min from the show site.
Meeting up places? Some good spots across the river in Vancouver WA as well, close to show site.
butch
I dunno about the metal spinning.. Hardly ever explodes in you face like wood can!
Ya & maybe you could make a side trip too.....Good, better, best never let it rest until your good is better & your better best.
"Ya & maybe you could make a side trip too....." Sorry, Bart, you lost me on that one.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Jamie -
I got an email notice a few days ago about the Portland and Seattle shows and had thought about going (to Portland) but it's just too, too far at this point. I think I'll wait and see how things shape up around the time of the Seattle/Puyallup show.
Thanks for the invite, though. If something comes of it, lemme know how the show goes. I'm not sure if I've recovered financially from the last one I attended!
Forest.. I'd go but I have to babysit all time.. Dang...
OK Jamie, with date fast approaching, will it be Friday or Saturday? Also, where and when should we meet? Outside by the big downed log? for lunch or dinner?
Sorry, I've been working all weekend, tomorrow's finally a day off. I'll gather the info from here and WWA and see what looks good.
I'll be there in time for lunch on Friday if anyone(s) wants to meet. Will leave around 2pm on Saturday to get back home. So, from my perspective, lunch on Fri and/or Sat is great and Dinner on Sat would be fine too. Guess I'd better get focused and find a hotel room! By the way Jamie, I see that they will be having a seminar on spray finishing - I seem to recall some recent posts from you on the subject.

Thanks Rick! I'll check it out. The wind's blowing so hard today, I could've sprayed by just throwing paint into the air. :-)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I've tried that once or twice, but the overspray was b!&ch to clean up!1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 - get a new board and go back to step 1
