I was looking thru my latest edition of Food & Wine magazine and noticed an intriguing little blurb in the section that highlights new products. It’s new product called Identibord and consists of a series of cutting boards that are color coded on the end (all lined up in a nifty countertop rack) for different types of cutting needs. The point apparently is to minimize cross contamination during the food prep process, which is a valid concern when working with meats especially.
I thought it was interesting and might serve as the genesis for a new project for some of you. Here’s their website so you can see what it is: http://identibord.co.uk/

Wow, I'm seriously out of compliance! I only have two cutting boards, one for uncooked meat and one for everything else.
As far as woodworking goes, they'd be alot cuter if, instead of those paper labels, each had an inlaid silhouette of the food of choice, i.e., a pepper, a lambchop, a fish, a big fluffy roll. Hmmmmmmm, hungry!

The latest issue of Beer and Burritos says all you need is just one cutting board.
Hmmmm???
Yes... but you can turn it over and use the other side too.

I was looking through a copy of the Lee Valley catalogue an found these "platter handles"...these must be for indicating which cutting board to use for the really visually oriented people!!! : )

Martha they are not for cutting boards but for serving platters. This way you can tell what's on the platter.Scott C. Frankland

Martha,
Now you've done it! Those items you mentiond are made in France!!! How un-American of you to even mention them...
...Figures that the French would need to supply their food with little pictagrams of what the species is that you are being served!!!

Martha,
Well, the images are universal I suppose! No matter what language you speak, a fish is a fish.
Sounds like another good way to separate paranoid yuppies from their money! I got a good dose of cross contamination avoidance training from my son who was Food Safe" Certified in culinary school. I do my cutting in order and leave the meat, poultry or fish for last. Then I scrub my wooden cutting board with soap and scalding hot water. So far so good.
