Need quick advice on a used bandsaw
Hi.
I need some information:
Tomorrow morning, I am going to look at a bandsaw (it is a 14″ Sprunger, from the mid 70’s) that I saw on Craigslist. Never having owned a bandsaw (I’ve only used them in other people’s shops), I am not knowledgeable about tuning them, or about what to look for.
When I go tomorrow morning, cash in hand, to “kick the tires”, what should I be checking for? What worn or out of true parts are deal-breakers?
I appreciate any input you may have.
Thanks,
Alex

I'd check the tires, guides, trunnions and bearings.

Thanks for the input.
I am familiar with OWWM.com, and have already seen the particular model on the site.
"I'd check the tires, guides, trunnions and bearings."
More specifically: Tires - check for wear - anything else?
Guides and trunnions - what do I look for?
My relationship with bandsaws has been, "turn it on and cut". I am pretty clueless about everything else.
Thanks for the help.

On the guides look for cracks and missing pieces, on the trunnions look for cracks.
On the tires I would just plan on having to replace them if they are the originals.
Are they rimmed wheels?"There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."

I don't know if they are rimmed or not - I don't know the difference.
Here is a picture of the same model from OWWM. Does this answer the question?

I couldn't tell from the pictures if they are rimmed. It looks like it may be an aluminum casting. I would look over the whole casting for cracks if this is the case."There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. I picked it up this morning for a hundred bucks. It needs an arbor pulley, a lower thrust bearing, and tires. All in all, though, in good enough shape to gamble $100 on.
Thanks for the help.

In addition to the above I would also plug it in and turn it on , bring a piece of wood . Seeing the used machine operate is worth 50% usually .
good luck dusty
