There was a story in FW (I think) that discussed a woodworker who made a piece in a public shop in CA. This shop rented the tools for a monthly fee. There are other places like this in the country. I need help finding the website. Or if anyone has the info for a franchise like this, that would be helpful as well.
Thanks very much.

where do you live?
I live close to Cleveland, OH
I know the park district here in Chicago has a shop you can use for a relatively modest monthly fee. A friend made a bed there and said good things about it. I never saw it.

This sounds like a great concept. Do you have to sign an agreement before using the equipment/tools? Seems like there could be some risk (as the owner) if someone gets hurt.
What do you folks think? is it worth putting together a list of these types of services?
Thanks to Knots and other member input, we've published lists of local sawmills: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesArticle.aspx?id=29313
and sharpening services: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesArticle.aspx?id=29738
Would it be helpful to start a list of community woodshops?
Or does anyone know of lists like these that already exist?
Thanks,
Gina

I belong to a woodworking guild in Greenville, SC with about 560 members. Its $75/yr and we have a nice shop to work in. It has a lathe rm, power tools room, hand tools rm, assembly rm, library, storage rms, and gets a monhtly supply of wood at great prices. We have most everything except a spra booth, kiln, and sawyering area.
I know of two other similar clubs with shops, one in Alabama and one in a suburb of Charlotte but there must be many others. I would surf the woodworking websites and you can probably find links.
Just a thought
