That rocker is really bizarre.
I like the Venus table.
Funny story with that chair. I think he built it sometime in the mid to late 80s. For a few years He had been published in FWWs Design book. I would always ask why he had not submitted Photos of this chair for consideration. He reasoning for not submitting was that he felt the chair was a little on the heavy side. The Shape work on this chair is amazing. So one day I'm at his shop for a visit and he tells me he submitted a batch of photos to FWW for consideration and for the heck of it he threw in some shots of the Rocker. Much to his surprise they chose the rocker. Mike is one of those guys who come round once in a lifetime, His skills are second to none. Hand carving, Veneer work, joinery, period reproduction, Ect... His skills with a paint brush and canvas are just as impressive. He will always be an inspiration to me.

I love to see a guy do something outlandishly creative and then come back with a traditional blockfront construction to show he's got all the bases covered.
This kind of ability is a gift. It cannot be learned. Lucky ba$tard!

My point exactly, he told me about 600 hours in that
Townsend reproduction. He researched by going to the museum and taking measurements and photos. He is only in his early 40s. He is not a period reproduction guy , From what he told me he had neighbor, an older gentleman who was into the reproductions and I guess would occasionally get under his skin. So hence this piece the older man was taken down a few knotches.
A little "in your face" woodworking. I love the notion. Just wish I was capable of it....Guys like Gregorio are why I don't post pictures of my work. Really, what would be the point... to have other hacks show me some love?I'll just be content to wallow in mediocrity.I've been looking at the pics of the blockfront. It's stunning. One of the best I've ever seen. Super crisp.

Boss , mediocrity is my middle name . I realized many moons ago, If in my life I make a few pieces that are visualy interesting to me . thats fine.
The first time I viewed that blockfront in person I was floored, It truly is a masterpiece. .

He really is a talented guy. But the first thing that came to my mind when that chair first flashed on the screen was a giant grasshopper. :^)
