I am looking at buying a 7 1/4 Dia. blade for chip-free cuts in double sided melamines, to be used on my circular saw.
Any suggestion?, type and brand.

Never looked for one for that size, but if you find one I suggest you make a zero clearance base for improved cut quality.
Correct me, if I am wrong. Zero clearance goes well for table saws. Circular saws turn the oposie way in relation to the feeding, therefore the chipped side is on top.
A zero clearance BASE provides the same function as a ZCI in a TS--one is upside down from the other. It gives a cleaner edge on the SIDE FACING THE BASE, just like the ZCI provides a cleaner edge on the SIDE FACING THE TABLE. If you still don't understand, you might do some research, as I don't want to belabor the point.
Freud sells a good one , don't remember the name but you can find it http://www.freudtools.com
Good luck

Yes, but the good one comes in sizes of 8" to 12". To big for me.
Thanks
The last time I cut some Melamine, I picked up a plywood blade at HOme Depot, but put tape where the cuts were going. Worked great. If I were going to get a new blade, I'd grab a Diablo (by Freud) at HD, plywood blade, or if they have one designated for Melamine, that one. Use the tape, score, whatever, it'll work fine.

For the price of a melamine blade you can get a whole system.
David
Excellent! thank you very much
Sooner or later, somewhere into the Melamine project, you will undoubtedly need to make a cut that will be either clumsy or unsafe to make with a Skill saw.
The commission required 7-8 sts. of Melamine. I tried a "shooting board", scoring with a sharp tool, taping the cut line and burnt offerings.
What made the best cut was to make a TS first pass, with the blade a scant 1/16" deep. After raising and lowering the blade countless times, that dedicated Melamine blade doesn't seem that expensive any more.
When the traveling WWer show came to town, I resolved not to come home without a Melamine blade.
The choices were overwhelming. Needless to say, each booth felt theirs was the best. The choice was narrowed down to the Jesada blade. Their 10" x 80 T. blade, is now in my arsenal.
As a test, I got a better, chip free edge, on both sides, with the Jesada blade over the Forrest WWII. The Jesada made clean cuts without a 0 clearance insert; as a matter of face, I removed the throat plate and got the same clean cut. The only concern now is in blade life, as the Melamine core is brutal on blade sharpness.Arlington, Texas (The dash in Dallas-Fort Worth)
Practice...'till you can do it right the first time.
