What is the best glue to use for melamine. I have heard Roo Glue is the best but I can’t find it anywhere in my area. What would be a second choice?

I usually use Weldwood contact cement. I tried one of the water based versions and didn't like it. Took too long to tack up and it would actually release in high humidity.
Tony,
Try:
http://www.rooglue.com/roostore.html
Someone would ship it.
BTW
Enjoy.
I am trying to finish up a project for Christmas. I am customizing a closet for my Wife and don't really have the time to wait for shipping. Will any of the polyurethane glues work. I don't like the way they expand because of the mess but I know they hold well. Any alternates would be helpful.tonyWe already have enough youth, how about a fountain of smarts.
Tony,
I understand. Most of my Christmas projects get finished in January. LOL
RooGlue is a Modified Polyvinyl acetate Emulsion Polymer according to it's MSDS. Who knows what the modification is. TiteBond also makes a melamine glue.

We use Titebond in our shops. It's a good glue.
Hi, I'm Len and I'm a Toolaholic...
Roo Glue is it. Any cabinet hardware and sheet goods supplier should sell it.
If you run out of other options, find a cabinetmaker or two in your area and plea for mercy. Maybe they'll let you have some of their's, LOL. I can identify with your dilemma.

Did a dumb thing. I searched all the local websites for roo glue and came up with nothing. Then I went back and browsed woodcraft and found rooclear. I'm heading there for lunch. Hope it's in stock or I'll be reduced to begging as Forest Girl suggested. Will let you know.tonyWe already have enough youth, how about a fountain of smarts.
Construction adhesive.
Jackplane, What kind of construction adhesive are you talking about. I went to Woodcraft and struck out. They say they don't sell enough Rooclear to keep it in stock.tonyWe already have enough youth, how about a fountain of smarts.
Check the roo link. They have suppliers listed. Looks like something I need to check out.

Tony,
What type of joint are you gluing? I know I'll be chastized here by some, but yellow glue will adhere, just not as good as Roo in a pinch.
Hi tony ,
If you dado or rabitt all your joints then regular Titebond type glue will work. You just don't want to glue to the melamine surface without a dado unless you use Roo Glue or the equivalent .
good luck dusty
I will be dadoing the joints but I don't want to use screws if possible. I dont like the looks of the buttons and they always fall out sooner or later. I am going to find the closest supplier and have some shipped today so I can have it by the weekend. The glue up shouldn't take long anyway if I have it all set and ready. Thanks for your comments.tonyWe already have enough youth, how about a fountain of smarts.
melamine to melamine, use regular construction adhesive from any hardware store.
particle board to particle board (ie a dado), use wood glue like titebond.
One last question. Would the glue that the chain stores sell to put together laminate flooring work. This stuff does stick to the finish laminate flooring pretty good and it has to be removed chemically? Will this work well?tonyWe already have enough youth, how about a fountain of smarts.
tony ,
I am not familiar with the flooring glue you speak of , but more than likely it is not the same as Roo Glue . I have only used the regular Roo , not the Roo clear . For sure the regular Roo will do the job .It has sort of a pale blue grey color , but dries fairly clear for the most part .
good luck dusty
Keep in mind that no matter which adhesive you use, the joint will be no better than the adhesion between the substrate and the melamine coating. The coating does not have real adhesive strength like a wood to wood joint. And, the melamine adhesive does not have real good adhesive qualities in wood to wood joints. In the shop I was involved with, we made lots of kitchen cabinet carcases using melamine coated particleboard. We used standard PVA adhesive but removed the melamine from the areas where we wanted adhesive force. In addition, we used biscuits for critical joints.Howie.........
