I have some shop sawn bubinga veneer all thicknessed to just under 1/8. My concern is that this is too thick to act like veneer. The substrate is MDF and I will use yellow glue. I don’t have a vacuum bag. I do have a thickness sander. What would be a safe maximum thickness for the veneer?

You should be okay with 1/8" especially with yellow glue. There is enough creep in yellow glue that it will allow the veneer to move a little. If you are concerned then sand it a little thinner.

Thanks Bob. I think I will sand it just a bit thinner but following your advice, I won't have so much to go and so not quite so tedious.
