Sorry if this is the wrong group to ask this question. I am putting in a home theater in my basement. I purchased a DLP projector. Rather than go with a premade screen ($$$), an alternative is to make my own. They make a paint called GOO Screen. It is acrylic paint. The screen will be 60″x80″ or a 100″ diagonal. My questions is what material could be painted and not bleed imperfections through? I don’t want a seam so I’ll need to get 5′ x 8′ material. I can get material in 5×8 sheets at my local lumber supplier. They have a material called double refined MDF. Never heard of it, but thought it might do the trick. I also considered HPL. I just don’t know if Acrylic would work. It requires two coats of a base coat, and two coats of top coat. What would you recommend to give me the smoothest surface to apply the material? The acrylic takes a full six weeks to fully harden (per an instructional video at the web site). Anybody here use this stuff? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.
