A friend has asked to make a “Sherry Table” for him. The top is small – about 12″ x 18″ with a laminated hard-maple edge. I intend to veneer the top in ribbon mahogany, hopefully with insets of falling leaves.
Today as I prepared dye color samples (to coordinate the maple with the mahogany) I also applied WB poly to the veneer. After all it probably will have sherry spilled on it. “My goodness, gracious me!” That is ‘thirsty’ material! I only applied 2 coats of poly to the mahogany sample but I can see that will take MANY more to build a finish. (I am normally in good shape with 5 coats on harder woods.)
Will I require a filler? Or should I just apply the MANY coats – which is no problem?

if time is not an issue, keep adding coats.
if it is, use pore filler.
