I am looking for a source to buy long finial tipped hinges. I am duplicating an antique French breakfront that has doors with these hinges with finials top and bottom. The largest finial tipped hinges I have found are 8 3/4 inches. These antique hinges are 20″, 39″ and 42 1/2 inches. Many thanks! gtp

GTP,
google up Horton Brasses If they don't have it, they can make it. I got their latest cataloge and it is terrific. If only the finials are needed, trace out the outline and bring to a machine shop. They can turn them on a lathe. (from brass stock.) Steinmetz.
You can also try Ball and Ball Co. They have reproductions of many such hinges, but not for the "faint of wallet".

Wow! You weren't kidding about Ball and Ball hinges being expensive. I have checked out all suggested sites and can't come close to the hinges I'm looking for. It seems like the next thing to do is to see if I can get a machine shop to fabricate them. Many thanks for your help!
gtp,
I had a second idea for you this morning - Whitechapel definitely has the cast brass French fiche hinges with finials, maybe even in the sizes you are looking for. I've seen really long ones.
DR
This is really helpful. I went on the Whitechapel site and from the pictures the hinges look like what I need. I'm e-mailing them to see if they make them long enough; . . but wow, they're expensive!
I'm glad to have helped a bit. By the way, these hinges are very common and not at all expensive in hardware stores in France. They're still in common use. But of course there's the airfare...
DR
Would such suppliers be on the web? Any suggestions on finding one?
I really seriously doubt it. I'm thinking of small hardware stores that cater to the local workers. In France there are a lot of serious DIY home and furniture enthusiasts, and traditional hardware like this can be found easily. The only place I can think of that has these hinges and just might be on the web is a chain called BHV. You can give it a try, but I wouldn't be too optimistic. In my past experience they just didn't want to deal with shipping outside of the country.

Do NOT try Rockler.. I just bought several hinges.. Bass AND expensive.. All the plastic bags contained three screws and nor FOUR!
I am still MAD and that was last year!
EDIT:: I now have a set of hinges without screws!
