Popular Woodworking (August, 2004) published a review of Lie-Nielsen’s new bevel-edge chisels, which they call the “best in the western world.”
According to their review, they compared the LN chisels to others by Ashley Iles, Barr, Marples, Sorby, Matusmura, and Nishiki and found “the only chisels as durable as the Lie-Nielsens were the more expensive and more uncomfortable Barr and Nishiki dovetail chisels.”
As apathetic as some “knotheads” are concerning tool reviews, I admit to being curious to see what Taunton and others have to say in their tests of the LN chisels, particularly when they start producing their mortising chisels.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.

jazzdog, what I got from that article was that they were as much impressed by the design and feel of the handles as the steel. I can't afford them, but will be interested in the mortise chisel when it comes out.
