I’d like to avoid reinventing the wheel if anybody has a suggestion for building a “caddy” to sit next to my lathe to hold tools and accessories while turning. Something that sits on the floor with maybe a smallish top and slots for tools?

No Lathe turner here but I would think of a shelf with a bunch of holes drilled by sizes?
Not a floor caddy, but here's a wall option.
Frank
That's pretty impressive, Frank, but one thing I don't have is wall space. When I designed my shop a lot of windows and natural light got the priority, therefor not much wall space. That's why I thought a floor caddy next to the lathe was a possibility.
Jimma,I did something similar to what 'Frankfive' suggested, but I built a cabinet around it with raised panel boxed doors. I then built a structure on the backside of my lathe setup to mount the cabinet.
Hmmm. Hadn't thought of doing that. Thanks.

My wife had an old tea table on wheels that I use, it has a shelf about 18 inches from the top, the top's about 20 x 28 or so.
Try a yard sale, if you find one, bore holes in the top or make a rack out of a 1x6, bore holes down the centre, then rip it in half, add some 1x stock strips to the bottom to hold the rack, screw it to the top.
Best,
Not completely out of the question. The hardest part would be finding the tea table like the one we gave away one time. Darn! I think I'll just make one. (Caddy, I mean.) Thanks for the suggestion.
A web site by the name of "Marley Turned" has such a floor cabinet, and a lot of info and videos on turning. http://marleyturned.com/id121.htm
He is very good and very entertaining.

That's really an interesting set up, Bruce. Thanks for the link. While it's a bit of an overkill for me as I have permanent provisions for grinding and storage already next to and under my lathe, it's still full of ideas and close to what I might want to build with a few exceptions. I really appreciate your response and I enjoyed looking at his site. Many thanks.
I took a 4-caster base from a dining room chair, added 30" of exhaust tubing where the seat would mount, and put a 16x24 top on it. Places for 4 turning tools, sanding euipment, and miscellaneous accessories. Rolls out of the way when not in use.
