Can anyone tell me where to find a Yorkcraft 8″ jointer? I cannot find anyone who carries them. Thanx!

I may be mistaken about this, but I think the Yorkcraft was sold by Wilke Machinery, which (again, I think) is now defunct. If I'm wrong, I'll delete this post.
If it's any consolation, the shipping on that bugger was killing people who didn't live real close to the warehouse.

Thanks, that is what I was running into...Wilkes no longer in business...
I am looking for a good 8" jointer on a limited budget. I have read all I can about them and keep finding bad reviews liberally sprinkled in with the good on just about all of them. I will spend 2K if I have to.....do you recommend any particular one?
Might have a look at the jointer somparison discussion going on. Some really good points being made.

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Thanks for the input Bob!! I did check it out, and it was helpful.
Good morning BWC... Wilke Machinery that carried Yorkcraft is indeed no longer in business with the Bridgewood and Yorkcraft line of machinery. I bought the last 20" Yorkcraft planer Curt had and the last Bridgewood Industrial mortiser.
Curt Wilke is still in business and has a full line of Yorkcraft and Bridgewood parts for replacement. He has also become a Steel City.. Power-matic.. etc. dealer. The new company name is C. H. Wilke, Inc. and is open for business for those that currently have Bridgewood and Yorkcraft machines. I spoke with him about two weeks ago.
But.. with that said... the Yorkcraft jointers and planers are the exact same as Grizzly. I can inter-change any part on my York-craft planer with a Grizzly 20" planer part. True of my 600 lb. Bridgewood Ind. Floor mortiser and Grizzlies $2100 version except the Griz has 2 HP and is 3 phase instead of 1 phase 220V on the BW.
So.. if you were looking at York-craft.. go to the Grizzly site as it came off the same line and is virtually identical. The Bridgewood had some variations from the Griz.., but again the Yorkie's are the same.
Regards...

Ahh, I see Sarge has confirmed my weak memory. Paid heed to him, he knows his stuff! If you're looking for an affordable, quality jointer, Grizzly is certainly a candidate, and you won't have to pay such a high shipping bill.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Thanks Sarge and Forestgirl.....kinda coincidental, but after poring over stats and reading reviews for 3 hrs last nite, I decided to get the Grizzly G0490. It is all I need for my little shop. I thank you both for trying to help me. I am so glad I have found this site....we can all use a helping hand from time to time.
Forestgirl, I was gonna ask you if you lived in Forest, Va, as that is where both of my children live. But I clicked on your name and your profile told me you are in Puget Sound. I live on the opposite coast, on a little strip of land between the Ocean and Albemarle sound. 1/2 mile from where the Wright brothers first flew their plane.
Again, I thank you two...take care!!
Mmmmmm, looks like a nice machine, Beach.
I'll have to look up your Sound on the internet, see some pictures. Ours is wonderful, of course, visually anyway. Some pollution problems, but our gov'nor has plans to work on that!
Let us know when you get the beast and run a few BF over it!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Used to do a lot of surf fishing up your way. Haven't been up around the Outer Banks since the mid 80's though. The last time I went up was to Top-sail Island around 86' and it had changed radically from the 70's. But.. I suppose that would be true about anywhere with the growing population as such.
Good luck with the Griz.. I think you will enjoy....

Thanks sarge.....You are right, it really has changed dramatically here since I moved here in '83. Most of what I came here for has disappeared! Still nice though. From what you guys are telling me I think I will like the Griz 8". Expecially since it is my first jointer. I also bought a dust collector yesterday. I went with the Oneida 3 HP Gorilla. My little shop (36 x 24) should do fine with these two additions. I thank all of you for helping me out. Hope I can return the favor some day....have a good one!
