I am looking for a dust collector for my small shop. I have narrowed it down to the Jet 708640 and the 708616. Does anyone have any expirience with either of these? I am leaning toward the 708640 in case I ever decide to upgrade to plumbing in multiple tools. I plan on only using it for one tool at a time, and initially will move it around to the different tools as needed. I know that a cyclone would be better, but the budget doesn’t allow me to consider those.
Thanks,
Scott

I would go for the JET DC650 unit, IMO I think you would get better dust collection also. Just a note you can get the Jet DC-650CK stock #708640CK with a 2 micron filter for cleaner air on your part. I would suggest this unit especially if you have a small enclosed shop with out adequate ventilation. It may cost you a $100 more for the canister unit, but I think your health out weights the cost of the canister unit. Good luck.see attached link.

I have the Jet 650 cfm unit but I really wish I had bought something in the 1100 - 1200 cfm range.
Mine is on a shop built manifold system with dedicated flex hose drops to the table saw and band saw plus two additional ports that I can make up to whatever other tools I use. One is at the bench and is mostly used for my random orbit sander or biscuit cutter. The other is near the drill press and gets used when I'm drum sanding. I also use these ports for vacuuming. When I use the benchtop planer or joiner, I run a hose directly back to the DC inlet. Overall, this setup does pretty well and setup changes only take a couple of minutes. My biggest problems occur when I forget to shift the blast gates. - lol
If you can, get a remote control for your DC. Mine is definitely a stepsaver.
If you get this unit, keep your hose runs as short as possible and definitely get an upgraded bag or a canister. That 30 micron bag lets quite a bit of fine dust escape. I just got a yard of 2 micron material from Penn State Industries and SWMBO is going to make a new bag for me.
