I have done some referencing and found advise that a good finish for Walnut, to bring out the figure will be boiled linseed oil thinned 1/1 with mineral spirits, followed by Shellac as a sealer and bond coat and then finishing with Lacquer.
I need to finish a dining table and chairs and will appreciate advise, before I start this finish job.

Jellyrug,
I used that exact same protocol (routine) on a piece of black walnut about 3 months ago and on some other pieces (woods) before that...came out beautiful. Some of the guys that do really nice stuff on here suggested the protocol...don''t want to try to quote, I'll screw it up.
I did leave out the mineral spirits...and all my layers were brushed on...still beautiful.
Thanks for the advice.
I will be spraying all my finishes and have quite a big job to finish. Dining table and eight chairs. Will be rubbing out the table top.
For the BLO, I'll give it a test with the spray gun and if this does not work, brush it on.
Willie
