Rockler is having a sale this weekend selling the Incra 1000SE miter for $99. I still have the stock grizzly miter on my TS. I have wanted to upgrade for quite a while. It seems at this price I can’t go wrong, but I don’t like to spend a nickel on something that will not help my ww’ing. If you had it to do over again, would you buy a miter of this type. I’d appreciate any thoughts, opinions on this product and the benefits of using it.

Hi
I have only used the stock miter gauge that came on my Shop Fox cabinet saw a few times. I already had an Incra V24 from a previous saw. The Grizzly was just too crude and hard to adjust. I was also afraid I'd drop it on my foot and do permanent damage.
One thing you'll like about the Incra is the system for eliminating slop on the miter bar. Once adjusted initially, the positive angle stops are very accurate as well. It's just a better engineered piece of equipment.
I do keep the Grizzly around for odd jigs. Once I went through the process of making little divots on the miter bar with a punch, I got it to work OK in the slot. I just keep it set at 90 degrees. I'm still not sure why Grizzly thought the world needed an 8 lb miter gauge though...

I have been using the 1000SE for a couple years now and continue to love it. Very well made, dead-on accurate and it handles surprisingly large pieces of wood easily. I have a review of it at the link below if more on it's features would be of interest.

Because there is always more to learn!
thanks Tom. I've read quite a few reviews for other equipment on your site. Very helpful by the way.
Still,
I think the 1000se has made a huge difference, much more than I expected. There is the accuracy enhancement factor with cross cutting and tenon shoulder cutting, also, however, there is the speed factor; I use a metal yard stick to set the distance from the blade to the stop and go...eliminate a lot of pencil marks, etc.
A couple of years ago I needed to replace my compound miter saw and looked carefully at the sliding type. My feeling was the 1000se provided for most of those requirements and the sliding type was not needed.
If I had to do it all over it would probably be tough to walk away from the Jessum because it is so much more substantial and for long boards provides more support. Given that the 1000se is on sale and the various methods for cutting long heavy stock I'd still go with the 1000se. Good luck with your decision
I am not one to jump on accessory items as I usually build them myself. But with that said... I did purchase an Incra V27 or whatever the basic version is called and added my own aluminum fence and stop. I do nearly all my cross-cuts on a SCMS but a few short ones with a stop.. box joints.. etc. on the TS.
In 38 years I have never seen an accurate as I want miter gauge come with any TS I have owned. The Incra is just that even in the basic gauge I purchased. I added my own $30 fence with stop.. so the sale price is a very good deal IMO on a very well made and accurate miter gauge.
Go for it if.. if.. the $$ are there and it doesn't wreck the family budget!
Sarge..
Another Incra 1000 fan here, I love it. Expect to tweek in the accuracy but the instructions are easy.
The sliding scale on the top is great for setting up a stop block, once it's set you can retract the tape( you don't want to cut it off;-) )
The only other miter gauge that I would want is the JessUm, But that beauty is $$$$$. So the Incra 1000 is a BIG bang for the buck.

It's a good tool, but consider my blunder. I purchased the extension for it which goes out to 47", I believe. A few years ago, I wasn't paying attention, and walked by my saw with the miter extension in. Just a little bump on the end was all it took to bend over a couple of the teeth which keep it registered and accurate. Completely worthless after that one. Just be careful with it, and store it in a safe place when not in use.
I was a bit disappointed at how fragile it was, but it was definately my screw up.

Love mine, and use it regularly. If you want to dial in a sliver, its there for you. I also have the LS120 Fence for my router table. The incra stuff is precise. I also like its ease at going from left side to the right side of the blade. You won't regret.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I bought the Incra 1000SE a few months ago , IMHO it is a perfect piece of Kit, parfect Miters every time, I should have bought it age ago
I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for perfection
Still,
Where did you see the sale at Rockler? I was just getting ready to bid on one on e-bay at $119 thinking that was a good deal. Amazon is at $159.
I had an Osbourne (now DeWalt / Delta). Don't go this way. There way to much slop in the way the gauge travels and is held down on the table saw.

I got an advertisement in the mail. I think it is the store price. A store opened in Houston about a year ago or so. They had a similar sale the weekend before turkey day where I picked up some Jet clamps and handscrew clamps for basically a giveaway deal. They also had a $30 coupon you could use with a purchase over $50 on nonsale items. I did check the webite and the price has not changed on the Incra. If you are near one of their stores, there are several really good deals (IMHO) meaning 50% off. My kind of sale. I get a kick from buying champagne tools on a beer budget.
Found the flyer in my recycle pile. Sale starts on Saturday and the Incra is indeed $99. Great value!!
It's $99.00 at Woodpeck right now. I looked and the weekly e-mail flyer I thought had a code for free shipping but I'd already deleted it. Call and get on the mailing list and have them send the current weekly special flyer.

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Thank everyone for your opinions and advice. I think I'm gonna go pick one up tomorrow morning. While I would like to set up a better station for my miter saw and rehab an old dewalt RAS I have covered up the corner, those projects are in the future and besides, I love working with the TS and would like to get the most use out of it as possible, on a budget of course.
