Building my first gun cabinet and have a question regarding butt hinges for the glass door. Background: face frame 2″ X 7/8″ ; door frame 2 1/4″ X 7/8″; door size 21″ X 54″ w/ 1/8″ glass. Building with African Mahogany.
I have bought a pair of brass butt hinges from Lee Valley http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=2&cat=3,41241,41249&p=40605
See item 01D6030, listed 60 X 30 MM which is approx 2 3/16″ X 1 3/16″.
Considering size and weight of door, I am wondering if I need one or two additional hinges for proper support.
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Although it doesn't sound like it is near as flimsy a many manufactured products, I'd put that third hinge on. Something that thin does have a tendancy to flex.
GR,
At least one more or if sold by the pair , use addition two.
It will keep the door from warping.
Be sure to place top and bottom hinges about 4" from end.
The remainder can be spaced equally apart. Another gramps Stein.
Going over 3' I would use a third hinge on each side - centered of course
54" with 1/8 glass.. Lets see.. 54 divided by twelve is 4 or there abouts...
No hate here.. BUT.... Shoulden't guns be in a metal safe??
Hay I got Expert with my old B.A.R. so not against guns a bit!
Well, it looks like it's unanimous. I need to order another set of hinges. Of course, it's not economical to order just one item, so I will have to order several items. Can't imagine why I was trying to conserve on hinges after what I have spent on mahogany.
By the way, LeeValley responded with the following which are guidelines I have not seen before:
We don’t have the manufacturer’s load rating for this hinge but the normal guidelines for hinges are as follows:
Weight of door Size of door Number of hinges to use 8-11 lbs 20 in or 508 mm 2 11-20 lbs 40 in or 1016 mm 3 20-30 lbs 60 in or 1524 mm 4 30-50 lbs 100 in or 2540 mm 5
The gun cabinet is for my son who is fortunate to live in an area that probably has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. The saying is: "people who live around here don't touch something that's not their's". (Probably because the result can be very painful, if not fatal.)
Thanks to all who took the time to pass on their wisdom.
