How I solved my first-time logon trouble
Just in case anyone else has the same problems I did…
When I tried to logon on here and over at the gardening forum, I attempted to login using my old name or e-mail address (separate tries) and password. I kept getting a failure message, saying that the name/password was invalid.
So I assumed I needed to re-register, but when I did so it said that my e-mail address was already being used by someone else. (I assume that was my prior account it was bumping up against.)
So I clicked the “forgot your password” button and had a new password generated and sent to my e-mail address (which was being used by someone else — me).
A few minutes later the password showed up and I was able to log in successfully. I’ll change the password back to my own, now.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else banging their heads against the wall as they try and log in for the first time.

Dave, Thanks for the good info.

No problem... I imagine we're all feeling a bit like kids who've just moved from a tricycle to a bicycle, so anything we can do to help adjust...

I tried this but my old user name and e-mail address can't be found in tauntons records. Oddly enough, when I tried to register with my old screen name they said it already existed. I'm dissapointed at some of what was lost in the change, and it looks like it might take a little while to get things smoothed out.

What I did, after I got the same two messages you received, was click the "forgot your password?" button rather than re-registering using a different e-mail address. The temporary password was sent to my existing e-mail account, and I was able to use it to get back into my old account and starting using the boards without having to re-register.
This option may be too late for you, but hopefully others can try it.
DavidHmmm... the garden or the workshop today?
David,
Thanks for the tip, just found out that if you've registered on another Prospero forum you will have to login in under that forum's password, or change as you suggested. Took over 45 minutes to get my new password ......Not liking this very much at all....
