Which is better and why? I ‘ve owned a 3612 many years ago and was pleased and wonder how the Hitachi compares besides a lower price and a longer warranty. Thanks

I own an Hitachi M12V Router, one of my better tools that I own!never had a problem with it!I use 1/2 Dia bits in it! here is a router table if you need it!

My thoughts!
If nothing sticks to Teflon, how does Teflon Stick to metal. Huh
I have the Hitachi M12V - it is a trouble free powerful variable speed router. In a table the height adjustment is basically by a lot of twists on the adjustment screw, since the plunge mechanism basically isn't used in the table. Not great. Outside a table it is very heavy, but solid.
I have heard good things about the Makita router, and own other Makita tools. You do need the variable speed (3612C, not 3612) - the reason for a router this powerful and heavy is so you can also run big bits, and big bits need slower speed.

I am not that experienced with routers but I bought the Hitachi a few months ago and I don't see how you can go wrong. It is big and heavy, but perfectly balanced for use off the router table. Lots of extra accessories. Works much better that my small router, and on slow speed it isn't even very loud. This was my best tool purchase in terms of bang for the buck. I used to absolutely hate routers until I bought this one!
I have an older 3612 and a newer 3612C
The 3612c has several thing that I think are worthwhile. Variable speed, soft start, brake, self releasing collet. I am glad I bought it, fwiw
