Hi there,
I am going to design and build a entertainment center/door cabinet for the master B/R. The existing furniture is “medium – dark brown” in color and is from the factory. I will match the existing color using dyes and or stains.
I do not wish to use oak as the grain is to large and deep. I guess I could use cherry but I am not looking for a natural cherry finished color. Can you recommend a somewhat close grained wood that would require a little dye and or stain to get the finish to match my existing furniture. If you think cherry is the wood to use then that’s OK to.
Thanks, ddougb

Are you planning to use solid wood or plywood? If plywood, what species and thicknesses are available in your area? Do you have a price limit?

I will use solid and ply and have access to a broad range of both.
Birch should give you a nice range of solid and ply options to complete your project. The Birch will stain nicely and should work well for you.
Look at Alder.

I'll second and third what the other two said and advise you use Alder for the solids and Birch for the plywood parts and veneer panels . Birch and Alder lend themselves to be stained and colored to almost any direction .

Thanks Dusty.
Thanks to all for your quick reply. I will check out my suppliers to see how the birch and alder look and choose from there.
