I purchased a pine table kit and want to refinish it to look similar to some otherpieces I have. The other pieces look old but are not. They are distressed with worm holes etc, and it is light in color and not shiny. What do I need to do to get this look on my new table kit. I saw that the store where I purchased my pine armoir was using Miniwax paste wax on the pieces that were for sale. The table needs to have a durable surface.

Three applications of Watco Danish oil (Natural, untinted) per can instructions. Followed by two to three wax coats using Fiddes furniture wax in the "Stripped Pine" color. Both products available from the Woodworkers Supply catalog.
If the piece needed less durability, I would have said use the wax only for three to five coats. If you are used to furniture with polyurethane finishes (essentially coated in plastic) then you WILL have to be a bit more careful if you use the method that I have prescribed. Heat won't be a problem for the finish, but I'd suggest coasters (as I always do with fine furniture), trivets, and place mats or tablecloths during meal time.
Good wood etiquette is always a good idea.
