I have a thick piece of bark (NO wood) that I want to preserve. Has anyone done that and what do I use?

There was a thread EXACTLY like this a month or so back, search this forum.
I once had a beautiful 12"x 12" piece of Bocote bark a friend was gonna toss. I figured I could find some use for it. I took one of my numerous spray bottles, I keep them with different sized openings, and liberally sprayed the bark with three coats of Danish oil. When it dried it was a beautiful wall hanging until my friend reclaimed it.
That's what I'd do, but I work only with oils. Maybe my story will give you some ideas of your own on finishing your bark.
