I am to looking to purchase a new block plane. It will be my first “quality” plane so I want to make sure sure I get the one with the most versatality. Probably will get the LN but am not sure weather to get the low angle or standard?

low angle.. easier to plane end grain
I think block planes are over-rated. I know everyone in the world recommends having one. I have 2! But I really don't use them. Obviously it depends on what you do. I think you may get more utility out of a smoother or a really long plane.
If you just have your heart set on a black plane, by all means get the lowest angle you can.
