Grizzly 12″ thickness baby drum sander..
Hello, I’m looking for a small drum sander (for thicknessing shop sawn veneers) and was wondering if anyone has bought or had any experience with grizzly’s 12 inch baby drum sander (I think that’s what they called it). One of the other questions I had was I know that the instructions say minimum thickness is 1/8″ but will the table go thinner than this? I know there are some drum sanders that if the handle is turned all the way the bed will touch the drum. Although I don’t want that I usually thickness my veneers to about 1/16″. And due to shop space a bench top 12″ wide is perfect.

If you need a thinner veneer, send it though the sander stuck to a carrier board with spray adhesive. You can peel it off the carrrier board when it's still warm and clean off the residue with acetone or lacquer thinner.
I've done that before minus the adhesive. However, I'm curious if anyone has this thickness sander and what they think of it. The next size up is too big for my shrinking space. Thanks...

I don't have that one but I have a Performax 10-22 that works well. Small foot print and surprisingly stout little machine.

Good advice. Even on the machines that the drum will touch the table the thin piece can curl up and go into the rollers unless backed by a thicker piece.

I was looking at that sander.
The belt is thick, textured, and perhaps soft material. I thought that thin material would deform especially near the edges.
I thought that the smalll jet looked nice, but I don't have enough income from sanding to justify another sander.
