I’ve been away for quite a while. It seems Taunton has largely killed their forums. It’s sad, I used to spend a lot of time here and got a great deal of enjoyment from it.
Cheers and be well, all.

Sad, I agree, Lee. You can find many of the old crew here: http://www.theburlforum.com/
Ah Lee, I too used to frequent the old Knots quite a bit as you know. It is very quiet around here now. I still pop in and have a look around to see if there's something to get my teeth into. I haven't seen anything to really get the juices going for a very long time, and I don't think I've posted more than two or three times in about eighteen months.
Anyway, it's good to see your name reappear after a long absence. Hope you are keeping well. Slainte.
Sgian, I am very well indeed. Currently back in the Caribbean till Spring rolls around in the frozen Northland. It seems forums in general are struggling. Perhaps woodworking as a hobby has most;ly run it's course. Honestly, I'm glad to not be trying to peddle my extreme luxury stuff these days but I've recently been thinking I might pull out the carving tools to hack away on a bit of firewood. We are still trying to find a way to head to Leeds for a bit of pub crawling..., if the Pound continues sagging it may become more attractive. Cheers Richard, be well my friend.

the Burl forum
I gotta say the burl is as dead as Knots. Some times more so. I was going to ask and now is a good op to do so :
What are all the ________ ( couldn't think of a term for the majority of the people who used to come here so fill it in for yourself ) doing besides woodworking ? Harlies ? Polo ? What is this next new thing ? Surely they are not all hunkered down. Doing nothing. Or maybe they learned it ALL here and are in the shop.

"What are all the Knotheads(?) ( couldn't think of a term for the majority of the people who used to come here so fill it in for yourself ) doing besides woodworking ? Harlies ? Polo ? What is this next new thing ? Surely they are not all hunkered down. Doing nothing. Or maybe they learned it ALL here and are in the shop."
In my case furniture design and making, and the teaching of the subject to others is my job, and has been for many years, so I haven't moved on to a new hobby or anything like that. But due to some changes in my circumstances of late I simply find I have neither the time nor energy to browse and post as often as I used to at woodworking forums.
In addition, I suppose, Taunton's Knots was a lively and interesting place, but then they changed the forum software to this format from the old one a year or two back. Somehow this newer format seemed to discourage posting and interaction when first it was introduced-- it was very user unfriendly at first, and the forum seemed to rapidly lose most of its regular users, most of whom seemed to disappear and/or migrate elsewhere. Slainte.
I hear ya brother
This thread pops up ever so often. It was good to see your name pop up again. I'm with you. I use to check it sever times a day and get something new. Now once a week if your lucky. I think they (Taunton) decided it was not valuable to their brand. They switched from a format that cost money to a freebie and I'd doubt if many folks from their staff even check this out much anymore. Most of the characters are gone. It's like when coke decided the brand was old and needed changing and by god people would just have to accept it. Well it failded miserably and they brought back the original brand and saved the company. I just don't think taunton thinks this brand (forum) is worth it and rather than outright killing it, just decided to push it to the corner and wait for it to die of natural causes. Anyway great to hear from you Again.
Taunton never liked it's forums, too bad really, if they would've developed it, it might save the print ship which is sinking. I met editors on several occasions and the forums were always an unwanted child. It's sad, noentheless.
