I have discovered a way to get a FREE cordless drill!
On the Sears web page, looking for cordless drills I found a 12v for $79.99 with two batteries and charger.
OK then I went to batteries, found 12v battery to fit the same drill for $39.99 each. that means that two batteries are about the same price as the whole kit. I’ll run right down to sears and get my free drill and charger, wish me luck!!

As my Pappy would say, you get what you pay for.
My neighbor got a deal from Sears on a drill, much like the one you are talking about. Nice shinny piece of junk. Batteries lasted for 2 charges then went dead. Made in good old chiner as the Kennedys called it.
Sears told him it was a special and had no warranties, no replacements and gave him a big run around. Finally after a lot of hassle gave him back his money.
Not to single out Sears. I got a DeWalt 14.4 with two batteries from one of the traveling tool peddlers. Rebuilt and had DeWalt all over it. Problem was, batteries were junk....made in Mexico. Actually I am not very impressed with the DeWalt batteries. I find that Makita batteries last much longer and hold a charge longer.
I presume you are kidding anyway.

Its strange to me that the batteries cost as musch or more than the total price of the drill including the charger and light... My 12v PC batteries are about 50 bucks each and the new drill is 139.. go figure... Darkworksite4: When the job is to small for everyone else, Its just about right for me"
Take a marketing class. Product pricing needs to be competitive. Parts don't. That's why it would cost you $500 to build that drill from parts.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

Bottom line, you spend $80 and you still have a Sears.
I've had the PC 14V 1/2" cordless drill for close to 2 years with 2 sets of batteries. Have had no problems with it at all. I generally use it enough to have to change the batteries daily. A friend of mine had bum luck with a Sears cordless.

I have had a Dewalt 12V for 10 years. It rides around in the back of my truck from job to job,I use it mostly for installs and drilling for cabinet hardware.Up to the last couple of weeks all was well but now one of the batteries is not holding a charge very well and will need to be replaced (I HOPE) That is of course if Dewalt still makes batteries for a 945.I also own a Makita 14.4 have had it for 3 years and both batteries are not worth a crap.I am lucky if they will drive 6 screws,as I am sure you all are aware the price on these is like 50 bucks,The drill itself is wonderful but the batteries are poor.

I can't take credit for this line -- I think I heard it here somewhere.
"Long after you've forgotten how much you saved you'll be stuck with the tool."
I think it applies here.
