Freud quarter cut router bits
I am thinking about getting on of the new Freud quadra cut cove and bead router bits and am wondering if it is as good as they say and really makes a smooth cut. Is it worth the extra money for these bits? Has anyone tried the various profiles available in these new bits and do you have any comments about them.

I plan to try some soon. Be aware that they have the same part number as the old 2 cutter bits. If you order on line you might not get the Quadra-Cut bit.

Interesting concept with the added cutting edge. With the smaller chip load on each cutting edge, I'd like to know if the same carbide quality (C-2 or C-4) is used on them and if there would be an increased factor of heat buildup with more cutting surface drag.
I had to smile when I saw Rockler's ad showing the new Freud bits..."Four cutters are better than two"
I had visions of the "evolution" of the ever-increasing number of blades in the safety razor..... ;>)

I have not tried them but it is the same design Freud uses on their raised panel cutters for shapers and routers. Two large cutters to remove most of the stock and 2 small downward shear cutters to finish cutting the profile.

In the latest American Woodworker that I received yesterday there is a short write up about the Quadra-Cut bits. They liked them a lot.

Thanks for the info. I will pick up that magazine and it should help me to make my decision on what bits to buy.
It is just a half page (p. 25) write up on the rounding over bit.
