If you’d like some of the wood I’ve gotten over the last year please come by this weekend it’s not only free but there should be a fair amount of it.. and I’ll pretty much divide up what I won’t be using.. to whoever shows up.. if only one or two show up then you’ll spit well over 500 bd.ft. the more who show up the fewer boards per person.. First come, first choice..
OK disclaimer.. The wood is thins, that is all the pieces are less than 1 inch thick and most of that I’ve gone thru and selected out those that are over 1/2 inch thick for my wall panels.. widths vary from 6-7 inches (a few wider) to 4 inches it’s been sitting out and some is stained. all of it is over 8 feet long so don’t bring a Honda unless you’re really clever..
It’s rough and who knows what the moisture will be (it’s all at least a year old so it’s really only a matter of drying the rain off it)
If you’d like to run a piece thru my planner or over a jointer I’ll be willing to let you..
This isn’t the thickness you’ll use to build a sturdy bench for but it’d make great boxes and stuff. You could use it to veneer over other woods or make checker/chess boards from it.. In addition you could use it to form laminations for curved work and it’d make great doll houses and recipe card holders..
steam it into an oval and make a cherry/ maple waste paper basket.
Well you get the drift. I’m sure your imagination will work wonders..
E-mail me and I’ll give you my address as well as directions that are reasonably easy to follow..

Lake Minnetonka Minnesota..
By the shores of Gicthee Gomie by the shining big sea waters,...
From the song of Hiawatha by Long Fellow..
When you get to Gicthee Gomie to pick up Fiddlebacks scrap wood take a picture of the quadruple timber frame and the figured maple walls he sports in the shop. While you're at it snap a couple of the log rolling machine he's built to make the 30' solid cherry columns.
There are those of us out here waiting for confirmation that fact really can be stranger than fiction.
P.S. Frenchy, if you'd like to see an amazing machine modification for making columns (that was fabricated in a shop, not in an imagination) check out this website http://www.plamann.com. Pretty impressive stuff!

C'mon be nice....
Where did you get Tom Plamann's site from, do you know him?
Some real interesting projects!!!!!
The Plamann website was posted in another discussion as it had some photos of a breakfast nook. So I took a look and was amazed. I didn't stop browszing untill I saw every photo and then went home and showed them all to my girlfriend. He's got more than woodworking skills, he has a lot of creativity and design skill as well wouldn't you say?

Lake Minnetonka Minnesota ?? It still frozen over?
Frenchy tried to e-mail you and it didn't work.
I'm not that far from you, and I'd be happy to help you get rid of some of that wood. (smile)
please e-mail me with directions and a time that would be convenient for you. Todd
toddr,
I went to your profile and clicked on your name and sent you an e-mail with directions..
so far not much response, should be plenty of wood for you to haul.. although the cherry did get picked over pretty well, still, a fair amount of it left..
Gee I can not drive... My eyes.. Thank-you anyway..
By the way.. I never got the E-Mail?? I have no idea why!
I just get mostly trash stuff but I read most of it..
Can I say HUGGS for the offer...??? That was nice of you! THANKS!

Will George,
No, it's a miracle the ice went out this year (unlike some years when it hangs around just taunting us)
I tried to email you too, but it got returned. That's probably part of the low response. I would appreciate contact info too, and thanks for the offer.
P.S. If you ask Frenchy he'd say he is Long Fellow. But I think that anyone who'd put 24" diameter columns outside their house is compensating for something ;)

AE,
I thought he was talking about his FEET...

Me and the dogs will be on the way in the rusted out 1974 Winnebago. You don't mind if we camp out in your front yard do you? All we require is is 50 amp power line and maybe a coax cable connected to some sort of cable provider that I can get the Braves game on,.... Oh yeah, maybe you could tell us where I could dump a couple trash cans full of empty 24 ounce Budweiser cans?...And by the way, frenchy, you don't have a sister do you? I feel like I could do a litttle dancin' on Saturday night,....she doesn't have to look REAL good - I can go pretty deep on the beer goggles,...But what I'd really like is directions to the sawmill where you get the walnut for 17 cents a board foot. You know the one,...where they load your vehicle up so the back end is dragging and the front tires are pawing at the sky,...
(Just kidding),...take care, Ed
PS: I HAVE seen photos of the house you're building and know it looks damn good. Wish Aesarte or whatever would go ahead and view one from the archives so he'd get the bee outta his bonnet,...
Ed,
I know there are local lurkers out there who will want some or all of that wood.. it's too nice to be burned .. I also know that somebody will someday come to my rescue and show me how to post pictures.. ah well!
PS I know your Winnebago isn't rusted out because they have aluminum skins, they corrode not rust! ;-)
pss, as for the size of my shoes they are 9 1/2 EE not exactly long fellows!
I hope he's paying you in board feet Ed ;)
Frenchy,
I tried to email you, but it bounced. I think I fixed the address, but you may want to update your profile.
I was going to head over to Cannon Falls this weekend for some maple, but I'd much rather go through your pile if there is any left. Email me and let me know when you might be around.
Thanks,
Scott from Belle Plaine
Frenchy, thanks for the wood yesterday! Your house is amazing to say the least. I don't think I've ever seen anyone use such huge walnut timbers before.
If no one else has taken you up on the wood, let me know and I'll come back out again today for another load.
Thanks for the info on the lumber source too.
Thanks again ...Todd
Todd,
I knew you were being too modest with your taking's.. Heck your bumper wasn't even lower! (I need to teach you a new word,, Greed! just ask Pat what it means ;-)
Pat from St Paul wound up the big "winner" in that he must of hauled over 800 feet of cherry on friday and came back sunday morning for another 800 + feet of maple..
There were a number of no-shows and a few calls today for more but sorry!
I promise to do it again soon, Once the front of my timberframe is done I'll start to haul some more home..
