Finishing/sealing end grain of New Thick Stair Treads
I am curious if I should seal the end grain on stairs right after I make the final cut
1- the end grain is not visible
2- the wood is barnwood that is plenty dry and has been recently planed to 2.5 inches
3- I am getting ready to cut to size but the staining and finishing process will be a while. (im doing these processes apart from each other at a different location where the saw equipment is)
4- since the end grain is not visible, should I seal this right away to prevent checking?
I dont mind cracking in the character but even though the wood is dry, 11-14%, I dont want checking with the move to different environments and to have a really bad crack after install

Couldn't hurt.
I've never sealed new pine treads, though. I'd expect them to be crappier than aged barnwood.
But, again, it certainly couldn't hurt.
