I just finished building a cherry table and need advice on the best way to finish it. I would like to preserve the natural color of the wood. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mike, I have thee same decision to make. I am looking at a brown dye with wipe on poly. It looks good on thee sample,, but as I am new to dyes and finishing in general, I will hold off untill there are comments on you inquiry. Rodger
*Mike, I just finished a cherry conference table for my office. Used as undercoat Maloof's poly/oil finish which I ordered from Rockler's. Top coat is General Finishs' ArmRSeal oil & urethane topcoat which I ordered from the manufacturer, but which is also available from Rockler's.Both are wipe on with 0000 stee wool rubdown between coats.Maloof's takes 24 hrs. to dry fully while topcoat was 4-6 hrs. 2 coats of Maloof and 6 of topcoat although 3-4 of topcoat would probably have been fine.Table looks beautiful with hand rubbed natural glow of cherry. Can't yet speak for durability of finish as has just been in office 3 weeks and no one has spilled coffee on it yet, but General Finish sells it as floor finish so expect it to hold up well. Good luck
