To All;
My finishing forum will be eliminated as of January 31st. In this strained economy, decisions and changes are often required.
My thanks to FWW for providing this platform. It’s been fun answering the great variety of questions that came this way. Please note; all the questions and answers will be available in the archives for future reference.
A special thanks goes to Tom Abbott, Joe Sullivan and Peter Charlesworth. I’ve greatly enjoyed our interactions. Had it not been for this forum, we wouldn’t have had that opportunity.
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks Gina, it's been fun. I have to ask though, why do you have a hammer over my name?

You haven't had to use it here yet.......... I've still got a little time left though!
I'm not trying hard enough?
:)
We will miss you, Pete!
Your expert advice has helped me a lot and is highly valued!
Sorry to see your forum ended,
Mike Dyer
Mike,
Thanks for the kind words. I've enjoyed it.
Peter
Peter, we've never met, and I've never asked you a question here, but you've taught me a lot with your straightforward, concise advice. Thank you.
Norman
Norman,
Glad to hear you learned from the forum. Have fun.
Peter
Peter, the forum has been first class. I have learned much from you and always appreciated your friendly, up-beat approach as well as your expertise.
I must say, finishing is one of the areas in which many otherwise highly skilled woodworkers are most lacking. There is a lot of nonsense and there are loads of ill-conceived home-brew finishes floating around, that an expert forum on finishing was important in my view.
However, times are hard and things are bad as the old song says. Maybe Taunton will reinstate the forum when the skies are blue again.
Joe
Joe,
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I did too.
Peter
Joe,
I agree. Peter was one of the few people who woodworkers could ask for advice and be sure that what they got would be good, detailed and based on experience. I have to wonder about the wisdom of this decision. It seems to be one more step in the dumbing down of FWW's content.
Rob
Peter,
Sorry to hear the bad news (for the rest of us, if not for you). I will keep in touch and hope that you do the same.
Rob
Hi Rob,
By all means keep in touch, you know where to find me. I enjoyed having the chance to do this.
I'll still be submitting ideas for articles. I have a great relationship with Mark Schofield at FWW and we like to bounce ideas off each other. Keep an eye out for this months Master Class, it's something I really enjoy doing.
I've also had the opportunity to work with Gina Eide doing videos ( some just a couple of weeks ago) She's smart and a real pro to work with.
No matter what the critics say about their likes and dislikes of the magazine, I can tell you from the inside that everyone really cares about what they do and work their a$$es off doing it.
I've enjoyed getting to know you.
Peter
Peter,
Your advice has saved my posterior several times so far. You'll be missed. So thanks for sharing your knowledge and best of wishes!
Steve Warburton
Steve,
Glad to hear your posterior is safe! I'm glad you enjoyed the forum, me too.
Have fun.
Peter
Peter,
Sorry to hear about the change in direction with your column as I very much appreciated the advice when I had a problem. Finishing is the black magic of woodworking that many who have mastered the construction (ok maybe not mastered) have found most difficult. More of an art to those of us who are more engineering oriented.
All the best,
Dan
Sudieu and Aciu labai
Hi Dan,
When I lecture or teach a class, I always flesh out the engineers at the beginning and tell them they might have a hard time because measurements are not EXACT.
It's fun and we have a good time with it.
Funny thing here; this past year I was watching the question and answer total going up. I've been at this for what would have been three years at the end of May. I was looking forward to it hitting 2000. Well, when the call came that it was being shut down I thought DAMN it was close. That little?? competitive side of me didn't want John White to be the only one with that number. I'll have to ask him how long he's been doing it. As far as I know he's sticking around.
We hit it and it's appropriate that it was you that sent it. Thanks. How do you say that in Lithuanian?
Peter
