I’m making a picture frame for a friend. The frame pieces are 5/8 X 3/4. Ordinarily, I’d just glue it together with epoxy, but it’s teak and I’m not sure I’d get good adhesion. I tried a test with my 18ga nailer and had some splitting. Are there other ways?

Countersink a #4 or #6 screw into each miter then back band the entire frame with the wood or your choice -- even add a molded detail if you like.
You should be able to get a good enough bond with epoxy.
For added adhesion you can wipe the mitres with acetone before gluing.

I use splines in the corners when I am making a frame. You could use some extra teak to hide the spline or a contasting wood to show it off.If it's a larger frame I will predrill then use a small nail in the corners. I never had one split.

Q,
Check out thread 7112 and post 25 in particular.

Can you help me figure out how to search by thread number?
Q,
Hmm, I can't get the serch engine to search on message numbers either.
A better approach (that will get you more pic frame threads and posts to peruse): Use the search term "v nail" and it throws up 20 posts relevant to your question. You can then wander through the related threads at will.
Hope this helps.

The "search by message number is at the bottom of the search page.
Thanks. I didn't occur to me to page down.
Quickstep,
Epoxy should work well on teak, also polyurethane.
I always use splines in my frames. I glue up first using PVA glue, which holds the frame well enough until I cut the mortises, then glue up with the splines in place. The frames will never come apart or gap due to moisture changes. here's a link:
