I have been making some outdoor chairs and recall reading somewhere about putting epoxy on the feet and a few inches up from the ground for protection from the elements. Do you recommend this and if so, what type of expoy would I use?

Check into West System epoxy. They have a whole line of products that will fit your bill.
Any good marine supplier will carry it.
You could also find various products at the big box stores.
I think there is a site called epoxyworld.com. You may check them out.
Sorry for the delay, I'm on the road.
