I am looking to build (8) shaker style doors for a painted entertainment center, they will be inset into the cabinet frames as well. For a past project I used 1/2″ MDF and then applied 1/4″ thick 1 1/2″ wide Aspen to the front face. They came out pretty nice and look good. I did use a lot of pin nails and glue that needed to be filled and sanded. It was also easy to drill the 35mm holes all the way through the 1/2″ MDF before I applied the 1/4″ material.
Is there a better or easier way to make these?
I know Could make or buy 5 piece door with a panel, but I dont want the panel to move and than crack the paint line.
Any Ideas or thoughts about my method?
Thanks!

Hey, Jikkk -
Sounds like you are doing it the easiest way - those sound like applied-molding slab doors. You get some serious yield from your sheet goods that way. Sure, you have to fill the nail holes, but that's part of the tradeoff.
From there, you are right - you go to the frame and panel 5 piece doors - either building your own or buying... They add to the cost, but they make the piece look really nice.
If you find some other suggestions, I'm all ears!
