I recently purchased a Earlex hvlp spray station pro and I am new to spray guns. I read the instructions and began to spray a test piece. I am using oil based white paint for some cabinets I am making. I first used primer and thinned it a little as the paint took a full minute to go through the cup. When I began to spray I got a lot of spatter and when I went to adjust the amount of paint sprayed I still got spatter. The tip is a1.5 mm. I know I need to practice more to get the gun adjusted but I was hoping to shorten the learning curve a bit with a little bit of help from anyone and especially from those who have one of the above either good or bad.

Sounds to me like you have too small of a tip/needle. On my Asturomec 9010, I use a 2.5MM for all heavy bodied material, and a pressure cup/pot.
Up your air pressure and cup/pot pressure. If it still does it, fill your cup with thinner and try spraying that. If you get a good pattern, then you need a larger cap/needle assembly.
Thanks for responding, Tom. The tip in the gun is 2.0 mm. I did thin the paint a little in the paint container. The knob at the back of the gun is for air pressure I may not have adjusted it enough. Being new to this I didn't want over adjust it. The liquid measures are metric, but I believe 1 liter is approximately a quart. The primer I'm using is Zinnser Fast Prime and the finish will be Dutch Boy Semi Gloss oil based paint. I'll get some more cardboard and practice. Thanks again. Also, if there is anyone out there who has an Earlex spray gun let me know your experiences and any helpful advice.
