There are several great places to go if you're willing to drive a little bit. Look up http://www.hobbsfurniture.com (yes, that's my Mom and Dad). That's about an hour's drive to the west. You can also check out colonial Edenton for a wonderful tour of old homes and historic sites. Across the sound in Creswell is Somerset Plantation.
I'm looking forward to visiting there next month (I live in Alabama, so I don't get back home very often).
Hey Ernie...that sure is a nice neat clamp storage they have. Wish mine was as neat.
How are they doing with their classes. I've been thinking bout starting to teach my own classes. ....

If you like good beer and german food, I recommend the Weeping Radish; it's probably 30 to 45 minutes south of Duck. Doesn't have much to do with woodworking but after a long day of sightseeing, you need a good meal!

On vacation in Duck NC for the week... Oh geeee....
WHAT? You never take a break? Never want to visit new sources of lumber and fine craft?
Alison,
In Manteo, further south, there is a neat boatshop where they restore old wooden boats. Old guys, volunteer help, nailed strakes with pennies for washers. It's across the street from the little pottery shop the wife likes to visit.

Ray

Used to be a lumber yard in Norfolk off of 21st St. Can't remember the name right now, but they carried stuff you only read about. Most people in Nags Head are from that area and have the phone books.
