I am considering a new drum sander. I have had the smaller Performax but note that the Jet is similar and seems to have more of the stores pushing it. I want the 22-44 size and my question is if anyone has experiences with both of these brands and any preference. Also, I am concerned that with the push for Jet by Woodcraft and other outlets if this is the one with the most support in the future. Any opinions?

I am a believer in the V drum sander. I used the 18" model for many years and last year purchased the 36" Flat Master.

Depends on your requirements. This little unit does not overheat, does not gum up with resin, glue or finishes.
Take a look. See if they will be demonstrated at a show near you.

David:
I have the Performax 22-44 Plus. I've had it about two years with no problems other than when I had too much pressure on the drum against the wood. This burned not only the wood but also the sand paper. I still used it, I just avoided the burned area. Once I learned how to use it properly I was very happy with it. Great dust collection and terrific for thickness sanding.
My point is, if you were happy with the Performax and the price is right, why change.

Performax and Jet are both the same company; WMH Tool Group. They renamed their Performax drum sander line to Jet a few years ago. Performax turned into a home owner power tool line although very few dealers carry it. http://www.performaxpower.com/
I have the 16-32 Performax and it works like a champ. You will have no problems with the Jet version.

Thanks, that is basically what I wanted to know and thought that with the unique design of the Performax that it had been taken over or merged. I will likely upgrade to the 22-44 as it is more tool than my current one.
